Le bermuda Thread Theory

Mon mari porte son nouveau bermuda Jedediah Thread Theory en coton sergé léger bleu canard de chez Stragier (encore eux! Mais pour de l’uni de bonne qualité et des bons conseils, j’ai toujours tendance à me tourner vers eux….) taille 33, sa chemise Calvin Klein, et son bébé ;P [My husband is wearing its new Thread Theory Jedediah shorts in a very light duck blue coton twill from Stragier, size 33 and his Calvin Klein shirt. Honnêtement, je vous le dis maintenant, mais quand j’ai ouvert la pochette des Jedediah pants de Thread Theory, j’ai cru que je n’y arriverai jamais… Déjà, le nombre de pièces sur le patron était effrayant, ensuite la taille des pièces du patron était aussi angoissante, et je ne parle même pas du moment ou j’ai commencé à lire les instructions pour monter le short….. en anglais…. Certes mon mari est néo-zélandais, mais je ne pense pas que lui même sache ce qu’est un « Flat fell seam »…

La tentation d’aller lui chercher son short que je voulais esprit « American sportswear » à l’outlet store de Tommy Hilfiger ou Ralph Lauren juste à côté de chez nous, enlever l’étiquette, sortir la planche à repasser et semer des petits morceaux de fil partout dans l’appart avant qu’il rentre du boulot était très très grande! Mais bon, sur un malentendu, j’ai du réussir à me ressaisir et je vous garantis que le short sur la photo est bien fait maison!

J’étais sure que j’avais vu une affiche de ce genre… Donc verdict après une quart d’heure de lutte « tu serres de trop, faut que je respire quand même! », mon mari est exactement une taille 33. Génial, ils proposent le patron en 32 et en 34. Donc me voila à décalquer sur des gigantesques feuilles, le 32 et le 34, puis à interpoler tous les points pour créer un 33…

Deuxième étape, reporter les pièces sur le tissus. Thread Theory recommande 1.7m de tissus pour une laize de 150cm pour la version bermuda, c’est peut-être vrai pour le 48, mais pour le 33, 1.1m ça passe largement avec le plan de coupe de la photo, la ceinture est sur la pliure, directement tracée sur le tissus:

Thread Theory recommands 1.7m of fabrics for width of 150cm for the shorts variation, it might be true for the 48, but for the 33, 1.1m of fabrics is more than enough, putting the pieces as shown on the photo. The belt is directly traced on the fabrics, on the fold]

Et après commence la couture, enfin déjà je recommande de bien essayer de comprendre lire les instructions. Et c’est tellement long par rapport à la couture pour bébé! On est au-delà de la slow-fashion avec la couture homme.. Mais globalement je suis vraiment contente de Thread Theory, il y a plein de tutos sur le blog, et ils ont pris la peine de faire un « sew-along » super utile sur youtube pour la braguette! Par contre je n’ai trouvé qu’une fermeture éclair de 7in a Sham Shui Po et c’est la mouise du coup, car quand vous allez faire la surpiqûre de la braguette du coup, vous allez casser votre aiguille sur la fermeture (vécu). Donc c’est vraiment important d’utiliser une fermeture de 6in.

[Then comes the sewing… But before I recommend strongly to try and read the instructions. And it takes soooo much time compared to baby sewing! We are way beyond « slow-fashion » with men sewing.. But overall I am very happy with Thread Theory, you will find plenty of tutorials on their website, they even filmed a very useful little « sew-along » on youtube to sew the pants fly! However, I only found a 7in long zipper in Sham Shui Po, and it gave me lots of troubles when I had to topstitch around the fly.. I broke my sewing machine needle 😦 So it is very important you use a 6inches long zipper.]

Les instructions recommandaient d’utiliser un biais pour finir les surplus de couture à l’intérieur du coup j’ai fabriqué un biais avec les chutes de batiste de coton La Modette qu’il me restait des caleçons façon Baleno, en plus comme ça le bermuda est assorti au caleçon 😉

[The instructions recommended to use bias to give a nice finish to the seam allowances inside, so I made a bias binding with some La Modette scrap fabrics that were left from my husband’s boxer shorts, Baleno style. Now his pants are matching his boxer shorts 😉]

En tout cas, globalement, je suis vraiment fière d’avoir réussi à venir à bout de ce bermuda et plutôt contente du résultat. Le seul problème c’est que mon mari aussi, et il en veut un autre… snif… en fine toile de lin, comme ma robe Do Brazil…  Sauvez-moi….

[Overall, I am very proud of myself for finishing these shorts, and pretty happy with the result. The only problem is that so is my husband, and he now wants other ones…. sniff… in a thin linen fabrics, like my « Do Brazil » dress… Please save me…]
